The HSIA Board of Directors has several committees that have specific areas of responsibility:

Beach Committee

Responsible for playground equipment, pavilions, and other equipment at the Hillsmere Community Beach.  Addresses safety issues, major repairs, and new equipment purchases.

Beautification Committee

Identifies and manages landscaping, clean-up, and plantings projects on HSIA community property.

Building Permits Committee

Issues HSIA building permits. Investigates construction to ensure permits are applied for and work is in compliance with HSIA requirements.

Budget Committee

Assists each committee chairperson to create an annual budget. Prepares a recommended budget for board and community approval.

Charter & Process Committee

This is a special temporary committee formed to help each committee, office, and other HSIA position define a mission or charter, description of duties and responsibilities, and establish processes so that the necessary functions are clearly understood by everyone involved. The goal is to make HSIA more efficient and avoid misunderstandings.

Entertainment Committee

Plans special community events such as Halloween Parade, Easter Egg Hunt, Community Yard Sale, etc.

Environmental Committee

Works with county on issues relating to storm water runoff, pollution, and other environmental issues.  Works with residents to encourage initiatives such as rain barrels and composting.

Historian

Our historian actively gathers information about the history of our community.  She is looking for people who have lived here for a long time (or who grew up here) to talk about what it was like over the years.  More than facts, she is also interested in preserving memories and stories about life in Hillsmere.

Membership/Welcoming Committee

Works with HSIA Administrator to process membership applications (as needed). Encourages current community residents to join HSIA. Sends a welcome packet and contacts new members. Contacts new residents to welcome to community and discuss HSIA membership.

Nominations Committee

Identifies qualified residents interested in running for office or HSIA board. Receives statements for publication in Sea Breeze. Submits list of candidates to HSIA Administrative Officer for ballot preparation. Supervises collection and counting of ballots at election meeting and announces results.

Piers & Harbors Committee

Manages the marina, sand spit, additional piers, ramps, harbors, and boat storage areas. Responsibilities include slip arrangements, issuance of keys, maintenance, improvements, contingency planning, leases, and contracts.

Pool Committee

Manages the Hillsmere Community Pool. Responsibilities include working with the pool management company, suggesting changes to the pool rules and policies, preparing pool membership cards & passes, organizing volunteers for pool maintenance & work days, planning pool holiday parties, and working with the Hillsmere Hammerheads Swim Team.

Property Committee

Manages all community property (other than piers & harbors) including rental house and pool property.  Responsibilities include leases, contracts, maintenance, improvements, and planning for a future community center.

Security Committee

Manages police patrols. Identifies security issues and works with police to correct problems. Manages locking of gate to beach and marina.

Traffic Committee

Works with county to identify and resolve traffic and road related issues including speeding, parking, pot holes, etc.

Zoning & Covenants Committee

Investigates complaints of zoning, covenant, and/or HSIA rules violations.  Attempts to resolve complaints by contacting violator.  Files complaints with authorities when necessary.  Follows-up on all complaints to ensure they are resolved.

Acts as a representative of the Key School to the HSIA Board of Directors. Works to mediate and resolve issues related to Key School activities, students, staff, parents, and facilities. Keeps HSIA board informed of school activities that will affect the community.
